How to configure an OpenVPN connection on Windows 10/11

Modified on Fri, 7 Feb at 10:56 AM

Default OpenVPN client can be found in the downloads section on the openvpn.net  website, or it can be downloaded directly from these links:
32bit client
64bit client

Afterwards, follow these steps:

- Install OpenVPN client (no need to change anything during the installation, accept the default settings)

- Restart the computer

- Download the ovpn.zip file, which can be found in the attachment section of this page, extract it and copy vpn.ovpn file to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\config folder.
(click on "Continue" if you see some kind of warning)

- Launch the OpenVPN GUI. Important note: every time you run OpenVPN GUI shortcut on the desktop, you must do it with admin privileges (right click on the shortcut and select "run as administrator").

In the system tray section (lower right-hand corner of the screen) OpenVPN client icon will appear. By right-clicking on it you will be given the option "Connect".

After that you will see a login window where you should enter your username and password.

If the connection was successful OpenVPN client icon in the bottom right corner of the screen will become green, and you will see a notification that your VPN connection is now active.
